Driver access and sign-in
Who can sign in, the two ways to sign in, and what to do when the email address does not match.
A driver signs in with the email address registered against their driver record in Catch-e. The app finds the driver's lease by that address, and any other address will not work. This article explains who can sign in, the two ways to do it, and what to do when a driver cannot get in.
Who can sign in
Your organisation's switch
The Give drivers access button on the Ignition screen in the portal switches the app on for your organisation. It becomes available once the five required setup steps are complete. Until it has been chosen, nobody at your organisation can sign in.
The driver
A driver can use the app when:
- their record in Catch-e has an email address, and they sign in with that same address, and
- they have a live novated lease with driver access on: a lease that has started and has not ended, been terminated or been suspended.
The email address on the record is shown on the Drivers list in the portal.
Signing in
The first screen says "Everything your novated lease needs, in one place" and has a Sign in to continue button, with links to Catch-e's Terms and Privacy Policy. The button opens a secure sign-in sheet inside the app, where the driver chooses one of two methods.
The one rule: whichever method they use, the driver must use the same email address that Catch-e holds for them. A driver who signs in with email one day and Google the next, using the same address, is the same person. Nothing is set up twice.
If the email address does not match
A driver who signs in with an Apple, Google or Microsoft account on a different email address sees "We can't set you up to drive". The same screen appears when the driver has no live lease.
The driver chooses Delete account, which removes only the app login, and tries again with the email address registered in Catch-e, either with an account on that address or by registering with it.
If the driver chose Hide My Email
When a driver signs in with Apple, Apple asks whether to share their email address or use Hide My Email, which gives the app a private relay address instead. The app cannot find a lease from a relay address, so it shows a screen headed You chose "Hide My Email", which asks the driver to start again and choose Share My Email when Apple asks. Start again removes only the driver's Apple sign-in; their lease is not affected.
If the screen appears again, the phone is still remembering the earlier choice. The driver removes the app from Sign in with Apple themselves, then signs in again and chooses Share My Email. On an iPhone this is under Settings > [your name] > Sign-In & Security > Sign in with Apple. On Android, they go to account.apple.com > Sign-In and Security > Sign in with Apple.
Sessions
- On later visits the driver unlocks the app with Face ID, a fingerprint or the phone's passcode. A failed unlock never signs them out; they can try again. If the phone's Face ID or fingerprints have changed, they sign out and sign in again.
- A driver stays signed in while they keep using the app. If they have not opened it for a long time, they are asked to sign in again.
- Losing mobile signal never signs a driver out. The app shows "Can't reach Catch-e" and they try again once connected.
- On a new phone, or after reinstalling, the driver signs in once and returns to the app as they left it. Account setup does not run again, but the phone asks again whether the app may send notifications.
- If the installed version is too old, the app shows "This app needs an update" and the driver updates it from the App Store or Google Play.
Deleting an account
Delete account, at the bottom of Profile, removes the driver's app login. Their records at your organisation are not touched.
Warning: Before launch, check that every eligible driver has a current email address on their record. A mismatched or missing email address is the most common reason a driver cannot get in. When a driver cannot get in, check the address on the Drivers list first.
